There aren’t many better introductory ciders than Portland Cider Company’s Sorta Sweet and Kinda Dry. When my wife and I first discovered the amazingness that is local cider, we couldn’t get enough of either kind. Though my palate has shifted from preferring Kinda Dry to now craving Sorta Sweet, I’m happy to recommend either to anyone looking to branch out from mass-market options.

I’m very happy to share that owners Jeff and Lynda Parrish (how does he find the time with his day job) have two BIG announcements. First, Portland Cider Company will be selling three new styles:

Pearfect Perry – 100% true pear cider. Made from a blend of three different NW grown pears. A balanced semi-sweet perry, light with strong pear notes on the nose and finish.

Hop’rageous – Dry hopped with the Citra variety of hops and bitter orange peel. Just off dry and bursting with citrus notes.

Cascade Juniper – A medium-dry cider infused by hand-picked cascade juniper berries. A surprisingly good combination, with the juniper dominating the nose.

While I haven’t yet had a chance to try any of these, I’m looking forward to doing so this week, which brings me to my second announcement: Portland Cider Company is opening its own tap room! With wood panels and taps and experimental offerings and swag and a chance to talk with the cider makers while sipping on some great Pacific Northwest cider, there cannot be enough of these popping up here in Oregon.

The grand opening, scheduled for Saturday, February 15, will have giveaways every half hour, samples, flights, pints, and growler fills to satisfy even the thirstiest cider fan. This also make a perfect after Valentine’s Day treat and one helluva way to keep the local love (see what I did there?) going.
