It’s been quite a ride for long-time Valley PR professional Matt Murphy since early 2009. He’s been through a layoff (Pearson), a restructuring (Adaptive Curriculum), a serious bout with prostate cancer that required surgery, a custody battle and finally, a job with the United Way that just didn’t work out.
To add to his misery, his modest home in Mesa, purchased so he’d have room to have his four kids visit, lost much of its value during the crash.
Murphy, who served in the Arizona Army National Guard during Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom and continues to serve in the Arizona Air National Guard, was determined not to let anything get him down. He had his health back and knew that if he stayed positive, something would come along. Down to a few pennies, he drove to Tucson to interview with Raytheon. He was exactly what they were looking for, and being military certainly didn’t hurt, so they hired him.
He’ll now be working in Tucson full time and plans to move down there soon. Good luck to Matt Murphy on his new venture in southern AZ.
