Tyler,
Tell your Dad to get a LinkedIn profile to start. Fill it out 100%. Look for groups that are associated with what he does and his alumni. Join these groups. Next search jobs use the advance search option.
Compnaies want you to have a web presence so he needs to go to the Abswer section of LinkedIn and check all the categories. Find the ones whewre he can give great answers. When the subject matter is searched on google his answer will appear in the list. I am a knowledge expert on LinkedIn for job search. I also have a blog on WordPress "Job hunting from the seekers perspective".
Twitter has a great job search tool called TwitterMyJobs so he will need a Twitter account and then add this application.
This should get him started. A good web page will also help him.

Well, the first question would be: does he still want to do that? Isn't there something else that he would like to try now? Seems like the perfect moment...
