These are not the droids you’re looking for

I have zero idea how to search for a job. So far, I’ve applied online, sent out resumes, asked friends, attended networking functions and visited a few companies.

My biggest problem is that I have no idea what it is I want to do. None. I know I want to get paid and I know what I’m good at, but I have no idea what that really means.

I’ve never had to look for a job before, as I’ve never been laid off or fired. I’ve always seen a cool job, hounded them until I was hired and then worked for them. I’m afraid to do that now because I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket…

Wait, that’s it. Fear. That’s the problem here. Fear. Shit.

    Tyler:

It was my honor to meet with you at gangplank.

I don’t have problem to get a well paid job in the IT industry. I am afraid of that I will become the slave of corporation job again.

Like you said. We all need to diversified our talents and skills into different fields. That’s how I want to know more about PR and marketing. It’s not necessary to do everything by yourself, but you know where to get help when you need them.

Nice meeting you. Will catchup with you next time.

Tyler – It was my honor to whoop you at pool at Gangplank.

The bane of our current age is that we (the chosen cool ones) are talented in many ways, but corporations and companies really just want to fill a box – they want to take you, the multi-talented hugely dimensional being, and skim off 90% of your talents just to pursue one particular task for your pay.

It’s not us who have to change, it’s business. Stop hiring for particular roles, and start hiring smart people to do many things. We will thrive in the right environments. Shutter us in, and lose our interest.

Tyler, dude, grow some balls and stop being such a whiny man-child. Just kidding, man. My advice:
    1. Build your brand (which you’re doing to a certain extent with you clips, Twitter and your blog, etc.)
    2. Figure out what you want to do right now, or what you want to try…draw some maps, meditate, play WoW, whatever helps you define your goal
    3. Stalk potential employers
    or
    3. Become an entrepreneur
    4. Cross your fingers!

Good luck with the hunt, man!
