First Screen Cast Attempt

I personally despise video for presenting information. I can’t scroll through it easily, I can’t speed it up and I can’t read it quietly in a public place. But video is a powerful medium that can connect people to ideas quicker than many written words can and it’s also very helpful for instructional purposes.

Below is my first screen cast, which I shot with Quicktime and then edited and added voiceover in iMovie. The video quality isn’t as high as I would like, which is weird because I did export it on the high setting, which must mean that quicktime doesn’t do high-res screen recordings. Maybe that’s a setting I need to check into.

Either way, I’d love to know what you think.

First attempt? You did great. Some thoughts on next time:

* Instead of “Next we have the Photos tab. We use photo albums to keep track of all the cool things…”, turn that around. More about you: “Red Ledges Utah is a beautiful spot. We collect photos we take and customers take and upload them to Facebook in albums. You can access these from the Photos tab”.

* Less conversation, more scripting. Yeah, that goes against the nature of discussion. But to me, this should be more polished. You're voice and tone are great. I think it will reach more people without as much (and there wasn't that much) off hand comments. Don't go all “announcer guy” on us. See anything Dr. Pamela Gay does (podcast, video, etc) for an example of the happy medium.

* Needs and ending tag. A credit roll, if you will. Expect this to be viewed off of YouTube. Throw your URL up there at the end. Or better yet, the URL to the FB page.
