The power of criticism

There is nothing worse than someone who can’t accept criticism.

None of us is perfect and none of us ever will be. The more we learn (or are able to learn) is solely dependent on our ability to absorb new information and shape our previous ideas into better ones.

And how do we adapt what we currently know? Simple. People tell us we’re wrong. Or not quite right. Or just a little off. It’s not personal, it’s not flaming and it’s going to help you if you can embrace it.

So stop whining when someone tells you you’re wrong. Don’t bitch when someone pokes fun at your idea. And definitely don’t take it is an insult.

Get better. It’s your only choice.

Then criticize me.

I agree with you Tyler. Constructive criticism can only make a person better. Many of the things I have learned in my many years has come from doing the wrong things and someone letting me know. I learned the right way by doing it incorrectly. For instance loaning money to a female sibling. I learned to never do it again! haha

My most immediate response wells up from the spring of smart ass that dwells inside. “This post screams for a smart ass ‘your a fag’ type response,” it says to me.

Pushing this demon aside, your point is right on the money. No one can truly grow or become better without legitimate criticism. If you only listen to people who agree with you, progress halts. The key lies in learning to discern between the honest constructive criticism and the meaningless rants of the self-important that only want to hear, or read, themselves.

Like you said, no one is perfect, be brave enough to learn from people that challenge you.
