Linchpin meetup at Gangplank

by tdhurst · View Comments

I’m a Seth Godin fanboy, but for good reason: his books are great. His latest, Linchpin, is about making yourself so good at what you do that you are indispensable, and that causing disruption by rapidly eschewing traditional models for new ones is a worthy endeavor.

Last night at Gangplank, about 40 other people thought the same way I did. From the owners of a tequila company to traveling marketers, the room was filled with people who wanted to be and do better.

And we did. Linchpin was dissected, groups were formed and conversations were had. Attendees took what they learned from the book, presented it to the group, answered questions and hopefully learned a little bit more about themselves in the process. Whether or not they believe it, we’re all geniuses, if only for five minutes. The key is to make those five minutes count.

Thanks to all attendees, and a huge thanks to Francine Hardaway and Stealthmode Partners for the food.

ABC15 actually came down to interview Katie Charland (the second local station to do so) about getting hired at Gangplank, but they were nice enough to stick around and talk to the rest of us.

How about a random post?

Sorry I missed it! Sounds like it was a great event. Well done Tyler! Next time just ask if you need to borrow some video gear…

I need a firewire equipped camera for Friday night…

All my equipment is HDMI based, I can get you in touch with Image Avenue Studios (right next to GangPlank) for one of their Cameras. A HVX200 should do… I also have a FireStore FS100 if you need it. Lets talk tomorrow and I'll connect you with the right people.

I've had some bad experiences with USteam (caters to lowest common denominator event with pro version), if it's important I'd suggest looking at Adobe Streaming. I've got a couple options, we can talk tomorrow.

Thought you guys would enjoy hearing about my day after the channel 15 story ran. I'm Barb Goldberg and I was one of the people interviewed at the Meetup. I also work at a big corporation so I had a little remorse that I went on camera. When I got to the office, there were signs on my door…of course with photos! Also, my human resources director was in my office by 8:00am. Interestingly enough, they were interested in what Linchpin was and fascinated by what we were doing. It was a really fun day.

Sorry for missing it. I was psyched for it, but I ended up not going. Lame, I know.

We'll do it again, perhaps with a different book. Suggestions?
