Learning your limitations

by tdhurst · 6 comments

None of us want to admit we have limits.

We want to push them, achieve beyond them and blow right past them.

But we can’t, so we waste hours and energy trying to solve whatever it is that ails us.

IT WILL NOT WORK.

We’re not good at everything. We can be TOO engaged, too involved and too excitable.

And we love it. The rush of solving a problem, the adrenaline from confrontation and the thrill of learning are what feed me. I get by (okay, sometimes off) on it. These things make me feel invincible.

But it’s too much. Too much wasted on problems that didn’t need to be solved, confrontation that doesn’t really matter and learning something other than I should have.

Learn your limits. Do what you’re good at. Use what you have to create, not to destroy.

Be who you are.

Interesting idea Tyler. I hear what you’re saying and agree with parts. But, there is also a time and a place to push limits and get good at new skills. I dig the post though!

This post doesn’t sound like you. Are you evolving? I agree with recognizing that every individual has limitations. However, I also think NLawhead is correct; we need to know when to push ourselves so we don’t remain complacent.

There are things that we all should back away from, if there is no
real benefit to being a part of it.
