Brands on Twitter is a gray area. Should they be there? Are they intruding? Will they try to sell us something?

There is no clear answer to any of the above questions. Some companies such as @comcastcares, @zappos and now @TiVo, are getting it right.

Just tonight I had a convo with @maniactive about TiVo and @TiVo popped in. She (at least I think it was a she) gave some quick info and clarified a few points. Nothing but helpful, never tried to sell me a thing.

Will I buy a TiVo now? No, but I wasn’t going to anyway, it’s not a fit for me. I will, however, recommend them and tell this story. Nice, nice work.

I’ve had this same thing happen with Firefox and Ning. Helpful but not pushy (though with these two they really have nothing to sell, like TiVo.) It’s nice to see other businesses are watching what others are saying, and only stepping in when they think they can truly be of service.
