Being heavy sucks. Clothes don’t hang right, jeans don’t quite fit, underwear rubs where it shouldn’t and it can make many of us feel ugly.
There’s plenty we can do about it. Diets work, temporarily. Working out is good, until you’re bored or hurt. Eating only whole, healthy food is fantastic, until those you hang with start carving fried food and late night drinks. The not-usually-that-physical lifestyle of those who work on computers for a living certainly doesn’t help. Rushed meals and energy drinks do nothing but pack on the pounds.
So how do you fix this? You get a bunch of people that you work and play with and organize yourselves into a healthier lifestyle. Create new habits. Change your snack food from chips to apples. You sign up for the Gangplank Fat Off. And you make goals, so here goes.
On October 24, I will run a sub 2:00 half marathon in LA, while wearing my Vibrams.
By January 1, I will be under 200 lbs for the first time since I stopped running after my first half marathon.
On January 16, I will run 26.2 miles, in Vibrams, while Katie Charland runs 13.1.
I will give up soda and as many non-processed foods as I can.
Entry into Gangplank’s Fat Off is $25. For that $25, I’m getting a complete lifestyle shift and a leg up into a better way of living. I’m bringing back leather pants, and I’m going to run farther and faster than I ever have before.
What’s $25 worth to you?
