‘Camps are dead

‘Camps are dead. ((Dead as in no longer growing in scope, just in size. They are dead in the figurative sense, not the literal.))

Yes, that means PodCamps, CenPhoCamps and REBarCamps. They have reached critical mass in regards to presentation opportunities and type of audience reached.

Now it’s time to do all the things we talked about.

It’s time to try something different. It’s time to be held accountable. Or, as every blog I’m reading this morning is telling me, it’s time to become a Linchpin.

Here’s what I’m going to do:

1. One additional client per every three months.
2. Plan and execute CenPhoCamp-type events in Scottsdale (April) and Chandler (when the new Gangplank opens).
3. Repeat CenPhoCamp in October.
4. Start PhxThink.
5. Run the Seattle half marathon, wearing Vibrams, in under two hours.
6. Continue to channel my frustration into productive activities, like event planning or running.

That’s it. Besides staying alive, I’ll be doing in these six things in the next five months.

So, where’s your list?

 Camps are dead

Great list, and glad to see you expanding CenPhoCamp to other cities! Looking forward to QueCrkCamp in 2011!

You know, to run that marathon in under two hours, you are going to have to push Dad out of the way! hahahah

If we can’t get the people to come to us, it’s time to strip them down and go to them.

Nice list! The running of a marathon definitely tops my list, but I’m having trouble finding a good one. Maybe I’ll scoot on over to Seattle to join you for the half marathon. :-D

I totally disagree. CenPhoCamp, just as an example near and dear to me, didn’t quite get the traction among the small-biz community that we were looking for. Additionally, not all of the presenters had a good sense of their audience. Now that the event is more of a known entity, businesses will tell other businesses and presenters who are more focused on the goals of the camp will step up. Picture small business owners presenting to their potential customers. How about people who have done development or redevelopment downtown presenting the long list of challenges they faced to members of city gov’t? I think CenPhoCamp, for one, is not “dead” yet.

They’re not dead in the sense that they don’t exist, they’re dead in the sense that they aren’t evolving, only expanding. What does PodCamp do but become bigger? Nothing, really. Neither will CenPhoCamp or any of the other ‘camps around.

‘Camps are meant to introduce and to teach. What some of us are looking for is an opportunity to do and to innovate. ‘Camps, by their very nature in that they teach what is already known, can’t do that anymore, figuratively meaning they are dead.
